About Sebastian
You can read my monthly councillor's blog by clicking here
Born in Scotland, I grew up in Ireland. After some years in London I moved to Cambridge to do a degree at Anglia Ruskin University and have been living in South Cambridgeshire since. I live in East Hatley, near Gamlingay.
I was first elected to South Cambridgeshire District Council in a by-election in 1999. Since then my ward has grown from just the Parish of Gamlingay to include Arrington, Lt Gransden, Hatley, Croydon and Longstowe following boundary changes. In 2005 I was elected to Cambridgeshire County Council to represent the Gamlingay Division and added Barrington, Orwell, Wimpole, Haslingfield, Harlton, Gt & Lt Eversden to the Parishes I represent and work for.
I know many of the problems, issues and concerns that affect South Cambridgeshire , as working for you is what I've been doing for the past 11 years already!
At South Cambridgeshire District Council I have been variously been Chairman of the Scrutiny Committee, Environmental Health portfolioholder, Leader of the Council and currently I'm Leader of the Opposition. My main interest is planning and development and I sit on Planning Committees at both the District and County Councils; as well as on the Joint Planning Committee overseeing the large growth sites in and around Cambridge.
Sebastian is director of a market intelligence company based locally and lives in East Hatley, near Gamlingay. His interests include growing his own fruit and vegetables, the gym and dog walking. He is the Organiser for the Poppy Appeal. As well as being a busy local District and County Councillor he is a governor at two local schools.
Statement on Expenses
As with every other District & County Councillor in the UK I receive an allowance for my work as your representative. I am also entitled to claim for items directly and exclusively connected with my work as a Councillor - generally this is mileage although it can include car parking charges.
All allowances paid to me are available for public inspection year by year on the relevant websites; and are usually printed in local newspapers for public information:
- South Cambridgeshire District Council
- Cambridgeshire County Council
- Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service
